Tunxis Community College was chartered by the State of Connecticut in
1969 to serve the Bristol-New Britain and Farmington Valley areas. It
first opened for classes in October 1970 with 494 students; today
approximately 7,000 full- and part-time students attend the College each
semester enrolled in credit and continuing education classes. This
rapidly growing community college sits in picturesque Farmington,
Connecticut.
In the spring of 2007, this 95,000 sq. ft. expansion was completed, crowned by the Series 300 standing seam metal roofing system.
The architect chose IMETCO's flagship system for the expansion to
compliment an original building, which also features Series 300 (seen in
the foreground of the photo to the right). This early building was
fomerly a shopping plaza that was rennovated two decades ago with Series
300 metal roofing in a "Natural Patina" painted finish.
The 2007 campus expansion doubled the size of the existing college,
and added a much-needed modern library, as well as substantial classroom
space and science laboratiries. The project architect, Dubose
Associates, chose the same metal roof system that had performed so well
over the past 20 years, but selected a more contemporary custom
blue-gray painted finish to highlight the college's impressive rebirth.
